Who we are

Driving Change, Empowering Lives, Creating Lasting Impact.

‘‘Zonta’’ a word rooted in the Siouan Language of Native American Sioux people signifies honesty and trustworthiness. More than a name, Zonta is a legacy of trust, dedication, and the pursuit of a better world for all.

Zonta Club of Northern Beaches

The Zonta Club of Northern Beaches, Inc. has been a beacon of empowerment for women and girls since its founding in 1975. Originally chartered as the Zonta Club of Warringah by local businesswoman Maggie Vaile, a member of the Sydney 1 Zonta Club, our club started with just 14 dedicated charter members. Their vision was clear: to make a tangible difference in the lives of women within our community and beyond. In 2003, we adopted the name Zonta Club of Northern Beaches to reflect our growing impact across the region.

As part of Zonta District 24, we advocate for women's rights and gender equality at both the district and national levels. District 24 actively collaborates with the NSW and ACT Governments and, through its membership in the National Women's Alliance Economic Security4Women, amplifies its voice to the Australian Government. Our advocacy efforts also extend through Zonta Australia, contributing to the advancement of women on a national scale.

Our history is marked by milestones of service and advocacy, from supporting local initiatives like the Northern Beaches Domestic Violence Network ,  Northern Beaches Womens Shelter and Women & Children First, to global efforts such as the packing and distributing birthing kits through the Birthing Kit Foundation to under resourced countries. With unwavering commitment, we continue to work towards advancing the status of women in every way possible

Zonta International

Zonta International, founded in 1919, is a global organisation of individuals committed to empowering women through service and advocacy. With over 29,000 members in 1,150+ clubs across 63 countries, Zonta has been a leader in advancing women's rights and gender equality worldwide.

In Australia, the first Zonta Club was established in Sydney in 1929, with renowned Australian poet Dorothea Mackellar among its members. After a brief hiatus, Zonta was reestablished in 1965, leading to the growth of clubs across the country and the formation of Districts 23, 24, and 22.

Zonta envisions a world where women’s rights are recognised as human rights, where women have equal access to resources, decision-making roles, and live free from violence. Through initiatives like education equality, ending child marriage and promoting gender-focused climate action, Zonta clubs, including Zonta Northern Beaches, contribute to this global mission for lasting change.

Mission & Vision

At Zonta Northern Beaches, our mission is aligned with that of Zonta International: to improve the legal, political, economic, educational, health, and professional status of women through service and advocacy. We are committed to fostering understanding, goodwill, and peace through a global fellowship of professionals dedicated to justice and the universal respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms.

We envision a world in which women's rights are recognised as human rights and every woman is able to achieve her full potential. In such a world, women have access to all resources and are represented in decision-making positions on an equal basis with men.

In such a world, no woman lives in fear of violence.
